SOME NOTES WHEN 3D DIGITALIZING ANCIENT MINTS

Most ancient woodblocks have been coated with a layer of chemicals to preserve them, so the surface is often glossy. The relief of ancient woodblocks is very shallow, the text content or density of engraved motifs is very small and dense. Therefore, it requires the use of specialized 3D scanning equipment, with good focusing ability, and the ability to change the focal length and size of the 3D scanner lens to suit each type of pattern…

At Scantech Vietnam we use non-contact 3D Scanning method to copy ancient woodblock documents. We use 3D scanners with specialized optical lenses from Carl Zeiss (Germany). A brand famous around the world for the standard of camera lenses. Tiny details and shadows are no longer a concern for this Carl Zeiss model.
