Artec Twins: Large-Scale 3D Scan Data Platform

On October 8, 2026, Artec 3D officially launched Artec Twins, a platform for processing and rendering very large 3D environments such as construction sites, cities, open terrain and heritage sites. In plain terms: once you scan a large area, the data gets heavy, slow to open and hard to measure. Artec Twins was built to fix exactly that.

What Is Artec Twins?

artec twins

Artec Twins was first designed for the Artec Jet, a mobile SLAM-based LiDAR scanner. It now supports many other devices. It builds on Artec Studio and adds Gaussian Splatting, built-in analysis tools and algorithms for very large datasets.

The software runs on your own computer, and data is processed locally.

Fuse Data From Multiple Sources in One Project

A large project rarely relies on a single device. Artec Twins lets you combine data from:

  • Any Artec 3D scanner
  • Smartphones
  • Drones
  • Satellite imagery

A sensible workflow might look like this: capture the wide scene with satellite, aircraft or Artec Jet data, add detail with the Artec Ray II, then use the Artec Leo where you need sub-millimeter accuracy. Results export in industry-standard formats for use in other software.

Smooth Rendering, Even With Very Heavy Data

Artec says Twins renders point clouds of billions of points in real time, at up to 200 frames per second, with no decimation and no latency. Environments of 100 km² or more stay fully interactive.

One point stands out: Artec puts geometry and measurement accuracy first, with good-looking visuals as a bonus. As CEO Art Yukhin put it, this is a “geometry first” approach, so the measurement is always right.

First Gaussian Splatting in Artec Software

This is the first Gaussian Splatting feature in the Artec 3D software range:

  • Generate and render splats inside the software, with no external tools
  • Create them from Artec Jet LiDAR data, or from photos and video
  • Capture translucent and reflective surfaces that traditional reconstruction often misses

Three Data Types, Switch by Purpose

You can work with point clouds, meshes and Gaussian Splats, switching between precision and photorealism. Data can be viewed by color, height, normals or intensity. First-person navigation supports remote walkthroughs and presentations.

Built-In Analysis Tools

  • Create distance maps against point clouds, meshes or CAD references
  • Take cross-sections, calculate volumes, fit primitives and measure on fused models
  • Place datasets in real-world coordinates with georeferencing and ground control points
  • Compare as-built scans with design files to find deviations and monitor change over time
  • Export E57, LAS/LAZ, common mesh formats and Gaussian Splatting formats

Who Is It For?

Artec targets monitoring, inspection and surveying work in construction, architecture, mining, infrastructure and public safety. Artec Studio remains the flagship all-in-one software for everyday scanning and processing. Twins is the add-on to reach for when a project is big enough to overwhelm standard software.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Artec Twins only work with Artec Jet?
No. Twins grew out of Artec Jet and Artec Ray II workflows, but it supports many other devices and benefits users of every Artec scanner.

How is Artec Twins different from Artec Studio?
Studio is the all-purpose scanning and processing software. Twins focuses on very large datasets, real-time rendering, Gaussian Splatting, and comparing as-built conditions against design.

Is the data processed in the cloud?
According to Artec, processing runs locally on the user’s computer.

Where can I buy Artec Twins, and how much does it cost?
It is available now. Artec sells through its website and its global reseller network. The original press release does not list pricing.
