Led by the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/office\/institute-for-advanced-architecture-of-catalonia-iaac\">Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia<\/a>&nbsp;(IAAC) in a process that took a year and a half from its conception, the structure crosses a stream in Castilla-La Mancha Park in Alcobendas,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/tag\/madrid\">Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although similar initiatives have already been announced in the Netherlands, this is the first to have finished construction. The structure is printed in micro-reinforced concrete, and measures 12 meters in length and 1.75 meters wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.archdaily.com\/804596\/worlds-first-3d-printed-bridge-opens-in-spain\/58861183e58ece3496000396-worlds-first-3d-printed-bridge-opens-in-spain-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.adsttc.com\/media\/images\/5886\/1183\/e58e\/ce34\/9600\/0396\/newsletter\/EC8A8234.jpg?1485181268\" alt=\"World's First 3D Printed Bridge Opens in Spain - More Images\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The institute stated in a press release that the parametric design allowed for the optimal distribution of the material and minimized the amount of waste by recycling the raw material during production. The design also allowed for maximum structural performance.
